The CA Legislature is coming back to hear bills after taking 6 weeks off due to COVID-19 Stay-at-Home orders.
The Governor’s $221 billion proposed budget for 2020 now must be revised to cover essential COVID-19 related supplies, staffing & benefit programs, and economic support. Nothing is normal these days and legislative business will be resuming with physical distancing and much uncertainty.
350 Bay Area Action is working hard to defend climate programs & funding even while the state faces huge budget gaps. Very few policy bills will move forward but our Legislative Committee will continue to track & fight for key climate bills. We are now primarily doing this work online, but this pandemic hasn’t stopped us from meeting, organizing, and planning for a better future.
Speaking of, check out our latest blog post about COVID-19 & climate change, Coronavirus Is Climate Change’s Publicist, by 350BAA member and activist Mandy Chan.
Currently, we are fighting industry efforts to roll back environmental and health protections. This is absolutely unacceptable in the middle of a public health emergency! The state recently approved 24 new fracking permits, while recent studies show that people exposed to air pollutants have a higher risk of mortality due to COVID-19. We are working with the statewide Last Chance Alliance to demand 2500 foot setbacks from oil & gas drilling in places where children live, learn, & play.
Can you take ACTION right now? Just click this to send a letter to CalGEM (they regulate the oil & gas industry) to demand the 2500′ setback as they draft new oil & gas regulations.
Thanks for helping vulnerable Californians as you care for yourself & the planet!
