350 Bay Area just completed an online event in favor of Proposition 50 (“The Election Rigging Response Act”) on the California ballot. Thanks to all who joined in! We’re writing to share more opportunities to support Proposition 50 before Tuesday, November 4th – just three weeks away.
At 350 Bay Area Action, we primarily support committed, climate-friendly candidates and measures that specifically address climate change. While Prop 50 isn’t climate-specific, these are not normal times:
- The Trump Administration is aggressively eliminating climate action and promoting fossil fuels.
- Trump is targeting California’s widely praised leadership role in promoting a livable climate.
- Republicans in Texas and elsewhere are aggressively redistricting to increase “red” districts at the expense of “blue” districts before the US House races.
- Prop 50 responds to this attempt by changing some California House districts to favor Democratic candidates, leveling the playing field in 2026.
- This is a temporary measure that will expire in 2030.
Trump is leading this redistricting effort because Republicans fear losing the House in 2026. (The governing party usually loses House seats in midterms.) Prop 50 gives Democrats a Fair chance to win back the House and defend climate action.
