Robert Sandoval is running to represent District 3 on San Rafael’s City Council because he believes that San Rafael can and should be a leader in efforts to improve and maintain the region’s quality of life, including the transition to clean energy. A longtime city resident and the father of a young family, Robert notes that “we have one planet, one beautiful place we call home, and a responsibility to be stewards of our land and community.”

To that end, Robert is particularly focused on building resilience to flooding, wildfire risk, and sea-level rise through city planning, investment, and public-private partnerships.  He sees how mitigating those risks can help to resolve the home insurance crisis many residents are facing. “I am committed to long-term planning and solutions to strengthen San Rafael’s climate resilience.” Near-term solutions he supports include:

  • Implementing the City’s EV Acceleration Strategy, transitioning City vehicles to zero emission;
  • Making it easier and more affordable for residents and businesses to electrify their buildings; and
  • Expanding EV charging throughout San Rafael.

While he does not oppose the construction of data centers per se, he would evaluate any data center proposal on a case-by-case basis, requiring “reassurance that a data center uses resources responsibly and sustainably, and that it aligns with our city and county climate goals.”

A former Deputy Attorney General for the State of California, Robert currently serves on the Marin County Planning Commission, reviewing housing and land-use proposals with consideration for environmental impacts, transportation, and long-term community sustainability.

He also chairs the City’s Park and Recreation Commission and is a member of the Point San Pedro Roadway Committee, focusing on safer walkways and bicycle infrastructure. As a practicing attorney, he works in the cryptocurrency industry.
