Having first been elected to San Anselmo’s Town Council in 2019, and currently serving as Mayor, Steve Burdo is justifiably proud of the town’s commitment to climate action. “Our town’s Climate Action Plan goes far beyond what most towns/cities have, if they even have one.” The plan lays out specific measures to achieve a 54% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2045, including transportation electrification and renewable-energy expansion, while incorporating adaptation measures for wildfires, flooding, and heat waves.
Running for reelection to the Town Council, Steve pledges to continue to strengthen the plan to ensure progress toward these goals and away from fossil fuels. Under his leadership, San Anselmo recently took the following actions:
- Completion of the Solar Resiliency Hub, which provides renewable energy to Town Hall via a solar photovoltaic system, a battery-energy storage system, and EV charging. It will also provide residents with energy resources, heating and cooling during extreme weather events and power shortages
- Renovation of Memorial Park, including measures to reduce water usage by 50%.
- A moratorium on new gas stations.
- Conversion of the town and police fleet to mostly electric vehicles.
Moving forward, Steve is committed to making climate solutions affordable, accessible, and understood by all residents. He will continue to apply his experience in emergency preparedness and prevention in his roles on the Ross Valley Fire Department Board of Directors and the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority to help keep San Anselmo safe and resilient.
