A desire to “create a city that is led by members of the community” animates Marisol Rubio’s campaign for reelection to the San Ramon City Council. This vision is bolstered by her commitment to environmental stewardship. Marisol has served on the Executive Committees of the Tri-Valley, San Francisco Bay Area, and California chapters of the Sierra Club, and chaired the Dublin San Ramon Services District/East Bay Municipal Utility District Recycled Water Authority.  

As a member of the San Ramon City Council, elected in 2022, Marisol led Contra Costa’s inaugural Labor-Climate Task Force, which aimed to carve out environmentally responsible paths to economic development. In 2025, she helped to establish the San Ramon Sustainability Advisory Committee; comprised of San Ramon residents, this group engages in community cleanups, seeks out opportunities with local entities to collaborate on sustainable activities and projects, and provides guidance regarding implementation of the city’s Climate Action Plan. Efforts such as these have led to recognition from Contra Costa Climate Leaders, a program that measures progress among the county’s nineteen cities in reducing greenhouse gas emissions; during Marisol’s tenure as Vice Mayor, San Ramon has achieved its highest ranking—third—to date.

Moving forward, Marisol would like to see her city build more robust electric-vehicle charging infrastructure and push for solar panel installation on all new developments. She emphasizes that San Ramon’s recent efforts to alleviate the Bay Area housing crunch have been undertaken with an eye toward sustainability: “We are…exclusively conducting mixed-use, infill development in the city core to prevent urban sprawl and encourage residents to use alternative forms of transportation,” she writes, noting moreover that San Ramon’s new affordable housing development is “adjacent to our bus hub, as well as our walking/biking trail.”

These initiatives reflect Marisol’s commitment to shifting to “clean, renewable energy,” and complement her work in the disability rights, workers’ rights, and social justice spaces in forging the foundation for a healthy, equitable, and accessible city for all.
