If you’re reading this, you most likely won’t be sitting out the midterms. But we bet you know someone who will.
- cTransportation Secretary Duffy “vowed to end DEI bike lanes.” The administration canceled $11.7 million for a bike path, part of a “sustainability and equity” initiative in Alabama. In Washington D.C., the administration plans to tear out bike lanes (temporarily blocked). In Nashville, the Trump administration froze a $9.3 million grant for a series of bike lanes; a court battle on the topic continues.
- Ten years ago, the community got the Oakland City Council to ban storage and handling of coal in Oakland. In June, invoking war powers under the Defense Production Act, Trump announced plans to award $75 million to help the coal industry build a “Beautiful, Clean Coal” terminal in West Oakland. We need to push the Air Board to enforce already agreed-upon regulations, and push for a new Environmental Impact Report.
- When you don’t exercise your rights, they can be taken away.
- Thousands of local elections have been determined by a single vote.
- We can’t take any candidates, even incumbents we like, for granted.
- Down-ballot candidates matter a lot, especially for climate issues.
- Don’t let somebody else make your decisions for you.
