350 Bay Area Action is proud to endorse Mathew Lopez for Healdsburg City Council, District 2. Over the last four years, Mathew has volunteered extensively with local climate organizations such as Climate Action Healdsburg.  He has participated in initiatives such as the development of the Healdsburg Climate Mobilization Strategy and the City’s Active Transportation Plan.  

As a Healdsburg High School math teacher and sports coach, he has strong connections to the youth in our community.  He is a role model for civic participation and is committed to equitable climate action.  If there is an item involving climate, he often speaks to the City Council during the public comment period.

Healdsburg has its own municipal electric department.  Mathew is a strong supporter of solar expansion to reduce municipal electric costs and supports a just transition away from fossil fuels.  He does not own a car and demonstrates a personal commitment to climate action that few have achieved.

Mathew has identified public transit as one of the critical needs of the community.  As an activist, he networks frequently with both Sonoma County Transit and the SMART Train staff to be informed about and advocate for the best possible options for our community.  He is currently Vice Chair of the SMART Station Area Plan Citizens Advisory Committee.  As an expert on the history of public transit in the North Bay, he is a much sought-after speaker for the Healdsburg Museum and other community groups. 

Mathew Lopez is the kind of leader Healdsburg needs on its city council.
