Ann Schneider understands that the transition to a sustainable future must be accessible to everyone. After installing an induction cooktop but finding her family’s budget couldn’t stretch to the full cost of solar, she experienced firsthand how the “middle-class gap” can leave families caught between qualifying for low-income assistance and affording the up-front expenditures of making a transition to clean energy. This personal insight helps fuel her mission to work to ensure Millbrae’s environmental and energy programs serve all residents, ensuring no one is left behind in the move toward sustainability.
With over 40 years of expertise in the environmental sector, Ann is a veteran of the “Zero Waste” movement. Her experience includes serving as a commissioner for the California Statewide Commission of Recycling Market Development, and advocating for innovative solutions like anaerobic digestion to turn organic waste into local biogas. Her career has been dedicated to the principle that effective recycling and energy conservation are essential components of a resilient community.
Ann’s vision for Millbrae is both practical and inclusive. She writes that, “development should strengthen, not undermine, our community’s financial stability and quality of life.” She is committed to expanding residential electrification, supporting microgrid development, and addressing the unique local impacts of our regional infrastructure—from noise mitigation to flood resiliency. As a leader, Ann is ready to ensure that as Millbrae grows, it does so with a focus on climate resilience and economic inclusivity for every resident.
