LIMITS VOTERS’ ABILITY TO RAISE REVENUES FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT SERVICES. LEGISLATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT
Prop 43 makes it harder for local jurisdictions to fund critical services: road repair, fire departments, 911 response, libraries, parks – and it holds votes hostage to the minority. If Prop 43 passes, tax initiatives on local ballots will require a two-thirds vote to pass, and so can be stopped by just one third of the residents of any city. In some cities and counties, this may become a common practice.
And the irony is, it will only take a 50% vote to make this law.
