Marin County native and longtime Novato resident Rachel Farac has demonstrated her climate leadership as Mayor, City Council member, and through her professional career in building management and climate mitigation. On the City Council, she has been instrumental in the adoption and implementation of Novato’s Climate Action Plan 2030, which establishes a roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve carbon neutrality by 2045.  She was the sole No vote when the Council approved a large-scale Costco gas station in the city, arguing that it was inconsistent with the goal of reducing fossil fuel infrastructure. “A gas station at this location is not in the best interest of our residents, our environment or our future,” she said.

Rachel supports renewable energy policies including: 

• Rooftop solar installations and battery storage systems;
• Expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure;
• Investments in transportation infrastructure, including safer walking and cycling routes; and
• Rebates, grants, and low-interest financing to expand access to clean-energy technologies.

Prior to joining the City Council, Rachel partnered with her neighbors to successfully advocate for the Climate Emergency Resolution, to ensure that climate mitigation stays front and center in the city’s planning process.
