350 Bay Area Action is pleased to endorse Melanie Olson for South San Francisco. Melanie is a third-generation South San Francisco resident, a city planner and a dedicated community advocate with a master’s in urban planning. She serves on the South San Francisco Parks and Recreation Commission and is a community leaders with Sustainable South City.
As a Certified Associate Planner for the Town of Woodside, Melanie’s day-to-day work on climate and conservation includes streamlining permits for solar panel installations and water-efficiency improvements (MWELO), and advancing a climate action plan aimed at reducing fossil fuel dependence.
Melanie brings a planner’s expertise to the interface between cliamte, housing and better communities. In her role with Sustainable South City, Melanie has supported affordable and workforce housing, better public transit, and more walkable/bikeable neighborhoods. Making sure residents have safe streets using proven methods is an important goal for her.
Melanie’s plan for moving South San Francisco to renewable energy involves:
- streamlining permitting for residential and commercial solar projects,
- retrofiting older city-owned buildings with solar
- build a robust, citywide renewable energy network that reduces residents’ dependence on fossil fuels — and their utility bills.
Melanie will be an excellent asset and leader on the South San Francisco City Council.
