350 Bay Area Action is happy to endorse Barbara Lee for Oakland Mayor. Lee was the first Black woman elected to the State Legislature and Congress representing a Northern California district. She has been representing the Oakland area for nearly 30 years in both California and the federal government. While in Congress, Lee worked to secure federal funds for greening the Port of Oakland (over $300 million), improving air quality ($372 million), and projects including hydrogen buses, EV charging, the East Bay Greenway Multimodal Project and green jobs (over $100 million).

Lee writes that “the transition to 100% renewable energy is critical for both environmental justice and economic security.” She emphasizes both the critical nature of the climate crisis and the need to make sure necessary changes include equity and protection against gentrification. 

Her priorities include:

• Public transit and clean mobility,
• Building electrification and solar microgrids,
• Good union green jobs,
• Holding corporate polluters accountable, and
• Protecting tenants and homeowners around green gentrification as we boldly move forward on climate.

We believe Lee will be a mayor with passion and commitment.
