After months of fossil fuel industry lobbying, Republican lawmakers have introduced federal legislation (H.R. 8330 and S.R. 4350) to give fossil fuel companies total legal immunity from laws or lawsuits that could hold them accountable for fueling the climate crisis and then lying about it. This would protect them from laws like the California Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act, and similar bills that are being passed across the country.
