Eli Beckman places climate action squarely at the top of his agenda for Corte Madera, the town where he was born and raised and now runs a small business. Having served as a Town Council member for the last eight years, including two terms as Mayor, Eli appreciates and understands what is special and needs to be preserved in Corte Madera, as well as the urgency of addressing what he sees as the only existential threat facing the town.

He knows, for example, that the only way to lower greenhouse gas emissions is to make it affordable for everyone in the community. “My top climate priority is making sure going green is cheaper than sticking with dirty energy,” he says. To that end, Eli has:

• Voted to lower the cost of MCE’s Deep Green 100% renewable energy offering;
• Voted for rebates on EV purchases and to reduce or eliminate permit fees for energy upgrades to existing buildings;
• Worked to ensure that state mandates on housing are consistent with efforts to mitigate the growing threats of fire and floods; and
• As Mayor, developed and adopted Marin County’s first Climate Adaptation Plan.

Unlike many other candidates, Eli does not categorically oppose the construction of data centers. To earn his support, “Any data center would have to ‘leave no trace’ in our community, meaning no net increase in carbon emissions or utility fees/usage, among other rigorous criteria relating to public health, safety, and welfare,” he says, adding, “Our community’s needs—a livable climate being chief among them—must always come first.”
