We are happy to endorse Monica Wilson for Antioch City Council, where she is running for her fifth term. Monica is a clear and expansive thinker and a proven leader. As a community organizer and a long-time public servant, Monica has worked to build a better, stronger, and more sustainable Antioch.

Monica brings a wealth of leadership ability, having served both as the Contra Costa County Democratic Party Vice Chair (former) and the current Vice Chair of the Northern California Democratic Party Women’s Caucus. Just some of the other committees she’s worked in or chaired involve policy areas, from education to juvenile justice to community development to regional transit.

While on the council:

• Monica successfully spearheaded the passage of an ordinance that prohibits oil and gas drilling within the city limits. 
• She pushed forward and helped pass opposition to renewing a gas pipeline through the city. 
• And she continues to support the electrification of city fleet vehicles and the installation of charging infrastructure, to help make electric vehicles more accessible and appealing.

Monica notes that all of these actions include a desire to protect Antioch’s residents from public health and environmental problems. All of her work has an equity lens. She writes, “Environmental policy has to include equity. We cannot ask residents to transition to cleaner energy or electric vehicles without making sure they have the infrastructure and financial resources to do so.”

Going forward, she wants to keep Antioch moving away from fossil fuels and toward clean energy and EV charging access in a way that supports working families.
