Luz Gomez
350 Bay Area Action is proud to endorse Luz Gomez for re-election to the EBMUD Water District Board.
Luz brings over 20 years of experience in public health, environmental sustainability, and community engagement to her current role as President of the EBMUD Board of Directors. She has managed programs for Contra Costa Public Health and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and was Chief of Staff to Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia.Â
As President of the EBMUD Board, Luz has prioritized long-term investments in local water system needs. A major example is EBMUD’s Walnut Creek Water Treatment Plant Pretreatment Project, which will help safeguard drinking water quality and strengthen reliability as wildfire impacts, algae blooms, heavy runoff, climate change, and drought create new challenges. The Board also has continued to invest in aging pipeline replacement, treatment facility modernization, earthquake resilience, wildfire prevention, and wastewater systems that protect San Francisco Bay. Consistent with Luz’s commitment to strong financial stewardship that supports essential investments, EBMUD has completed its largest solar installation, generating about 10 million kilowatt-hours of renewable electricity each year while offsetting nearly 10 percent of the District’s energy costs.
Luz infuses all of her work with outreach and deep listening, both to EBMUD’s personnel—engineers, operators, maintenance crews, biologists, scientists, customer service professionals, and other frontline employees—and to our communities. Her platform priorities encompass a continued laser focus on clean, affordable water for all; fiscal responsibility; environmental stewardship; climate resilience; infrastructure investment; and community engagement.
