Sarah Margulies and her family moved to Greenbrae in 2010, drawn to the area’s natural beauty, outstanding schools, and opportunities to get involved in the community.  In 2024, she decided to give back in earnest by running for, and winning, a seat on Larkspur’s City Council. “I ran for office because I very specifically wanted to get involved to protect our natural resources and work on implementing our Climate Action Plan.” 

That has meant taking the lead on focused actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including ensuring that the new, all-electric public library was completed with specific carbon-reduction measures in place — solar panels, EV chargers, and a solar-powered battery bank.  She is also collaborating with Larkspur’s Community Development Department to incentivize all-electric remodels and the replacement of older, polluting furnaces and hot- water heaters with energy-efficient electric equivalents.

Bringing a wealth of neighborhood volunteering experience to the table, Sarah was appointed to serve as the Council liaison to the Climate Action Forum, an initiative to involve residents in proposing, evaluating, and implementing climate projects, and building community engagement in those efforts.  “An important goal for me is to initiate and amplify the conversation about the climate emergency. As a council member, I have tried and will continue to view my decisions through a climate -first, public safety and equity lens. By focusing on climate, we are inextricably promoting safety, health, and affordability.”
