Charlotte Reed is running for Menlo Park City Council (District 4) with a mission to make the city a model for climate mitigation that other cities can follow. She believes that when local leaders take small but impactful steps, it becomes easier to inspire meaningful change across the entire region. This vision is grounded in a sense of intergenerational responsibility—the duty to pass meaningful policies now so that our youth inherit a healthier, safer world.

Charlotte’s commitment to environmental justice is central to her platform. She is a staunch supporter of Menlo Park’s 2030 zero-carbon goal and advocates for critical projects like the Belle Haven microgrid, municipal solar, and expanded EV charging. Importantly, she is focused on ensuring a just transition; she advocates for robust renter protections to prevent displacement during electrification work and emphasizes the need for multilingual outreach to ensure all residents can access energy rebates and assistance.

Her vision for a sustainable Menlo Park also includes a focus on active transportation and smart urban growth. Having advocated for bike lanes on El Camino Real through the Complete Streets Commission, Charlotte supports more environmentally friendly ways to navigate our region. She also advocates for transit-oriented, affordable housing and the reduction of parking mandates to foster more walkable, accessible neighborhoods.

As a graduate of the Emerge California leadership program, Charlotte is prepared to lead with a focus on resilience and equity. She is dedicated to ensuring that as Menlo Park moves away from fossil fuels, the benefits of the green transition are shared by everyone, protecting our most vulnerable while building a cleaner future.
