350 Bay Area Action is proud to endorse Seema Patel for San Mateo City Council, District 3. For years, Seema has been a passionate advocate for housing supply and affordability, safer streets, electrification, and other climate-related issues in San Mateo.  

For the past 5+ years, Seema has served as Chair and Appointee to the San Mateo Planning Commission. In this role, she has worked hard to ensure that San Mateo’s largest City expands and improves its housing supply in a smart manner. This includes implementing Measure T in order to increase housing density near San Mateo’s two Caltrain stations.  

As a parent of two young children, Seema has worked diligently to make the streets safer for kids who want to walk and bike to school. As a Co-Leader of Move San Mateo, she successfully advocated against the removal of bike lanes next to several schools on the most dangerous street in the City (she was featured in the Mercury News). She lives in a one-car family and can frequently be seen biking to school with her kids. She also led the Safe Streets for Everyone campaign to raise awareness of street safety and broaden political support for this cause.

Seema has also been a strong supporter of accelerating electrification in local buildings. She electrified her home and drives an EV (when not biking!). In addition, she gave numerous public comments in support of stronger reach codes in San Mateo.  

Finally, Seema has been fierce in her advocacy around reducing GHG emissions in the transportation sector. She has spoken out against the proposed widenings of US 101 and SR-92 in San Mateo County. She has also rallied in support of Connect Bay Area, the regional transit funding measure.
