Sonoma Board of Supervisors District 2: Joanna Paun

Joanna Paun, candidate for Sonoma Board of Supervisors District 2

When three of Joanna Paun’s daughters were struck by a car while crossing the street, it transformed her into a relentless advocate for safer streets and sustainable transportation. That personal experience became community action: She partnered with the Petaluma City Council and local police to expand Safe Routes to School countywide, with safety audits now completed at every K–12 school in Petaluma. For Joanna, that work isn’t just about safety—transportation accounts for roughly 60 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in Sonoma County, so getting kids walking and biking to school is a climate solution, too.

As a Petaluma City Schools Board Trustee, Joanna has backed her values with action. She championed a climate emergency resolution, prioritized energy-efficient HVAC systems, improved air filtration to protect students during wildfire smoke events, and helped create a Climate and Career Technical Education role to build environmental literacy and green career pathways—including regenerative agriculture—for the next generation.

If elected supervisor, Joanna’s climate priorities will center on equity and workforce. She’s committed to partnering with Sonoma Clean Power and state agencies to accelerate grid modernization and transmission, and to building a local clean energy workforce through union jobs and apprenticeship pipelines. She’s adamant that the clean energy transition must work for everyone: Low-income families who live in older, harder-to-electrify homes face higher energy cost burdens, and she says addressing that inequity is central to how she approaches this work.
