The Napa County Wildfire Preparedness, Watershed Protection and Open Space Preservation Act is a citizens’ initiative that would add a half-cent, countywide sales tax to raise money for open space, parks, watershed protection and wildfire preparation and resiliency.Â
If approved, it would raise $23 million annually for 18 years, creating a stable source of funding to mitigate wildfire risks, and conserve clean water and open space. Â
While at 350 Bay Area Action we often focus on emissions reductions to stop climate change, rather than climate resiliency to deal with its after-effects, wildfires challenge us on both levels, creating greenhouse gas emissions and social and economic distress. Ensuring Napa has a dependable source of funds to help stave off catastrophic fires, and funds to enhance and preserve our regional parks with all their benefits, is a clear Yes for us.
