350 Bay Area Action is happy to endorse Laura Nakamura again for her seat on the Concord City Council. Serving in 2026 as Mayor of Concord, Laura is a steadfast advocate for climate action. She employs a vision of weaving sustainability throughout the fabric of our community. 

Laura notes, “I try to demonstrate that climate action is not just about policy—it is about building healthier communities, strengthening local connections, and leaving a better world for future generations.”

Despite considerable resistance, Laura supported Concord’s Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) rezoning process, which identified and upzoned infill housing opportunities in high-resource areas near jobs, schools, services, and transit—work that advances both housing equity and climate goals by reducing vehicle miles traveled (VMT), limiting sprawl, and making it easier for residents to walk, bike, or use transit for daily needs.

Laura is leading initiatives to integrate climate action into Concord’s everyday operations and community culture. 

• An avid bicyclist, she inaugurated the Concord Pedal Fest; 
• She has championed planting trees in local parks and neighborhoods, microforests in Concord’s schoolyards, and garden education in the schools; 
• She developed Concord’s Climate Action Accountability Checklist for organizations using the City’s parks and facilities, which has been translated into the City’s “Helpful Tips to Hosting a Sustainable Event” guidance.

Laura plays a pivotal role in planning for the former Concord Naval Weapons Station, one of the largest infill redevelopment opportunities in California, advocating for a sustainable and community-driven vision.

As Concord’s representative on the Marin Clean Energy Board of Directors, Laura supports renewable energy, beneficial electrification, local energy choice, climate resilience, and policies that reduce greenhouse gasses while keeping clean energy affordable. She supports and is part of MCE’s efforts to include historically underserved and disadvantaged communities with outreach, incentives and broader access to assistance.
