Jeff is a challenger seeking an open seat in the Menlo Park City Council. He has made climate change a centerpiece of his campaign, building on over two years serving as chair of the city’s Environmental Quality Commission. Jeff’s 30-year career includes working with Lockheed Martin, Hewlett Packard, eBay, and as CEO of Ignited, a nonprofit for K-12 teacher development in STEM. He is the Senior Director of Strategy and Communications for Student Affairs at Stanford University and serves on the board of Canopy, a non-profit dedicated to growing the urban tree canopy in midpeninsula communities for the benefit of all.
As chair of Menlo Park’s Environmental Quality Commission and through Canopy, Jeff has played a major role in Menlo Park’s state leading efforts towards equitable decarbonization. This includes implementing one of the most aggressive decarbonization building code efforts, securing state funds for electrification of low-income homes, and co-leading the successful development of an Urban Forest Management Plan which prioritized tree plantings in underserved neighborhoods.
Jeff recognizes the importance of aggressive targets to accelerate action across many areas where possible including supporting a phase-out of all methane gas use as soon as possible. He also recognizes the importance of supporting low-income communities in the transition and ensuring the community is ready for the impacts of climate change such as extreme heat, wildfires, sea level rise, storms, and power outages. Jeff has received numerous endorsements including from one of the state’s climate champions in the legislature, State Senator Josh Becker.
