350 Bay Area Action endorses Shawn Danino for Oakland City Council at large. Shawn is a dedicated climate activist who has worked as a housing expert at the State Housing Department as well as on housing locally in Oakland. In his state role, through the Prohousing Designation Program, he worked to bring environmental justice measures to housing, including creating incentives for cities to move forward on safe and equitable streets.
Shawn has written that “the climate crisis is not just an environmental issue; it is a pressing matter of economic stability, public health, and equity. By acting now, we can ensure a livable future for all Oakland residents.” Shawn supports a wide-range of climate, housing and transportation improvements; electric vehicles, e-bikes, and public transit; a walkable, bikeable, well-designed city; housing that fights and corrects displacement; and transit- and amenity-oriented housing for a livable community.
“My top priority is to make Oakland a more affordable and livable place for people of all incomes. When people can afford to live closer to their employment, their favorite businesses, and high-quality amenities, we can reduce our carbon footprint and make it easier for people to make healthy and sustainable choices.”
Shawn has a bachelor’s degree in sociology (magna cum laude) and dual master’s degrees in information and public policy. Locally, he sits on the boards of Transport Oakland and TransForm, working on climate and transportation issues.
Shawn is one of three candidates whom we have endorsed for this seat. Oakland has ranked-choice voting. We strongly encourage you to rank all three, in whatever order you prefer.
