350 Bay Area Action, together with our local team at 350 Silicon Valley Action, is excited to endorse Sam Liccardo for the US 16th Congressional District, replacing long-time congresswoman Anna Eshoo, who is retiring.
Sam served as mayor of San Jose for eight years and on the San Jose City Council for eight years before that.Â
Under Sam’s tenure, San Jose followed an aggressive agenda to decarbonize its grid and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He led San Jose’s successful effort to launch community choice clean energy in 2018, which today provides lower-cost electricity—95% free of greenhouse gas emissions—to one million residents and thousands of businesses.Â
Sam successfully pushed to require all-electric residential and office construction, banning methane gas on new construction. In both cases, San Jose became the largest US city to implement these measures.
Liccardo has been a strong supporter of transit, housing, and bike infrastructure. This includes co-leading four ballot measures to generate funding for regional transit projects, such as CalTrain, bus rapid-transit, and BART.
One of our goals here at 350 Bay Area Action is to support the kind of dynamic that Liccardo’s candidacy demonstrates. Liccardo is an elected official who has put climate action and climate justice at the top of his agenda—and gained success, support, and the ability to run for even higher office by doing so.Â
Whoever wins this congressional seat in November may hold the seat for years to come. Please vote for and otherwise support Sam Liccardo for Congress. And please share this info with your friends and family!
