Davina Hurt is an incumbent councilmember in Belmont. She’s a 15-year Belmont resident and former Bay Area lawyer, now focusing on her family and community, supporting local organizations for voting rights, women, youth, and poverty. She’s a strong leader with a stellar record on climate, pushing for urgent and equitable action at a number of levels – not just for Belmont, but statewide. Among her leadership roles, she chairs the Bay Area Air Quality Management District Board and sits on the California Air Resources Board.
Davina supports a phase-out of all natural gas use as soon as possible, and is pushing for immediate action to both reduce carbon emissions and adapt to our changing climate. She sees the need to embrace innovation and demonstrate what’s possible, She points out that slow action or inaction not only harms public health—especially in communities of color, which are disproportionately impacted by pollution—but also has long-term negative effects on our economy and tax base.
Among her key accomplishments, Davina championed the effort to adopt “zero NOx” appliance standards at the Air District. These rules effectively require moving away from dirty combustion systems for water and space heating toward clean, efficient systems beginning in 2027. Davina deftly built support from the Air District board and other stakeholders over several years, culminating in the approval of the new rules in 2023.
