Los Altos City Council: Ibrahim Bashir

Los Altos City Council At-Large Candidate Ibrahim Muhammed Bashir

Ibrahim is a challenger for an open seat in Los Altos. He came to the US as a child and sought an education that led to his becoming a tech leader with Silicon Valley’s biggest companies and developing a pandemic monitoring system with the CDC. In addition to his commitment to climate, he got involved in the community, serving on the library commission and developing a vision for a vibrant downtown. He has made climate a top priority in his campaign.

Ibrahim wants to streamline permitting processes for residents and businesses to install solar panels, and he supports pre-wiring ordinances to push buildings to use electric appliances. He supports a phase-out of all methane gas use as soon as possible, including the Air Quality Management District’s “zero NOx” rules, to reduce polluting methane gas appliances.

He has been endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters and recognizes the link between housing and climate. He seeks to encourage more housing to reduce car travel and traffic, thereby reducing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions
