Desiree is a challenger seeking an open seat on the Burlingame city council. She is a scientist by training, with a PhD in biochemistry. With a strong background in community service, she has secured funding for Oxfam to combat poverty and hunger in the US and abroad. She also has numerous years of local leadership working to advance solutions to climate change, including:

• Serving on Peninsula Clean Energy’s Community Advisory Committee since 2017, including two years as chair
• Serving as a board member of the Citizens Environmental Council of Burlingame since 2018
• Founding and being a volunteer staff member with the Youth Climate Ambassadors Leadership Program since it started in 2019

Desiree educates students about climate change, coaching them through the development and implementation of a personal leadership plan and community impact project. She supports a phase-out of all methane gas use as soon as possible.
