Mountain View City Council At-Large Candidate Pat Showalter

Pat is serving her second term as mayor of Mountain View. She has served on the Mountain View council for eight years, and her professional work was as a water resource engineer. She also serves on the SF Bay Area Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) and the National League of Cities’ Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee.

She is champion of two related critical issues: environmental sustainability and housing. She is the current vice-chair of Carbon-Free Mountain View, which has successfully advocated for the creation of Silicon Valley Clean Energy and the adoption of building decarbonization “reach codes” in the city. She supports a phase-out of all natural gas use as soon as possible, including adopting additional reach codes and supporting the Air Quality Management District’s “no NOx” rules, to move away from dirty methane gas combustion to cleaner, healthier appliances in buildings.

Pat previously has served extensively on the city’s planning commission and recognizes the inextricable link between housing and the environment. Lack of affordable housing pushes families to more distant homes, resulting in long commutes, more pollution, increased traffic and reduced quality of life.
