Harvey is currently the Vice Mayor of Half Moon Bay and has been on the city council since  2016. He is a retired scientist with a PhD in Physics who worked for the Stanford Linear Accelerator for many years. He has also been the director of the Coastside Fire Protection District.

Harvey is a member of the Board of Directors of Peninsula Clean Energy representing Half Moon Bay and was a key backer of electrification reach codes and gas shut off efforts. He supports the Air District’s no NOx rules to move the region away from polluting methane gas combustion towards clean appliances.

Harvey has worked on preserving open space in the area while also improving access to affordable housing and encouraging more bike lanes and EV charging facilities.
