350 Bay Area Action is pleased to endorse Rowena Brown for Oakland City Council, as Councilmember at Large. As the State Legislative District Director for California Assemblymember Mia Bonta, Rowena has worked on many community issues, from having clean and safe neighborhoods to fighting for clean air to breathe. As an 8th grade teacher; a career counselor for adults facing challenges; and Assemblymember Bonta’s East Oakland Constituents Coordinator, and with a law school focus on environmental law, Rowena is well-equipped to work for the community.
She writes, “I was drawn to focus on this area (environmental law) because black and brown communities are overly burdened with air pollution, unsafe drinking water, and neighborhoods that are heavily industrialized with serial polluters. In addition, I watched many loved ones suffer from asthma and battle cancer due to their environment, living adjacent to refineries and other serial polluters. Embracing renewable energy sources and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels in Oakland presents an opportunity to shape a healthier and more sustainable future for everyone.”
Rowena is one of three candidates whom we have endorsed for this seat. Oakland has ranked choice voting. We encourage you to rank all three, in whatever order you prefer.
