350 Bay Area is pleased to endorse Brian Barnacle for Petaluma City Council District 6. (Brian currently serves on the Council, which formerly elected members at large. With the council now moving to elections by district, Brian is running for the District 6 seat – but is committed to continuing to serve all Petalumans.)
Brian is a climate champion, steadfast in the face of pressure from fossil fuel interests, and committed to infill housing, transit, and bike infrastructure.
In his first term, Brian:
- Supported the prohibition of new gas stations in Sonoma County; approved the city’s first solar canopy and floating solar projects; supported faster electrification of the vehicle fleet; voted to prohibit gas lines in new buildings; and helped to plant more than 1,000 trees—and counting.
- Lived his commitment to the climate: Brian works with Sonoma Clean Power on Environmental Justice and is a Board member for the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), the Petaluma Groundwater Sustainability Agency, and the North Bay Water Reuse Authority. He sits on the Community Advisory Council for the Sonoma County Agriculture & Open Space District.
We applaud Brian’s efforts to:
- Renew Petaluma’s Urban Growth Boundary and protect habitat inside city limits
- Expand solar energy, energy storage, EV charging, and electrification efforts
- Make walking, biking, and public transit more viable, while reducing vehicle miles traveled, thus cutting emissions.
