Devin Murphy has a track record worth noting! He served as Pinole Mayor (a rotating position) and as a member of the City Council for the past four years, having received the highest number of votes of any candidate in Pinole’s history. Devin has been the link between the city council and Marin Clean Energy (MCE), an all-green electric energy provider in the North Bay. In addition to other roles in the City Council, he also interfaces with West Contra Costa Waste Management (also known as RecycleMore) and the Western Contra Costa Transit Authority. On his watch, the city expanded energy efficient housing stocks and housing for veterans, and re-opened Pinole Fire Station 74.
Devin supports a 100% renewable energy future, by 2030 for municipal operations and by 2040 for the city as a whole. This goal includes enhancing energy efficiency – first in city buildings, then in the built infrastructure of Pinole as a whole, as well as the phase-out of natural gas. Devin would also support a buildout of EV charging stations and more (gasoline-free) public transit.Â
Education is central to Devin’s goals. He sees many educational opportunities in training people for green energy jobs and workshopping with residential property owners to move to more sustainable practices. It comes as no surprise that Devin supports the Constitutional Right to Environmental Health movement in the state legislature.
Devin is one of the youth voices amongst 350’s list of endorsed candidates. He’s been active in local politics since his high school days and throughout his studies at UCLA (including a year as Student Body President), promoting voter registration even before he could vote himself. As a technologist, he promotes greater training in information technology, realizing this can function as an economic equalizer.
