Myrna Melgar brings her education as an urban planner and her commitment to clean air, electrification, and equity to her work as the SF Supervisor for District 7, riding her bike everywhere she needs to go in the City, including City Hall.Â
Myrna’s family immigrated to San Francisco from El Salvador when she was a child during the 1980s, fleeing that country’s civil war. As a former community organizer, tenants’ rights advocate, public servant and nonprofit executive, she has championed equitable housing and transportation, public health, affordable childcare, and immigrants’ rights for decades.
As supervisor, Myrna serves as chair of the powerful Board of Supervisors Land Use and Transportation Committee and as vice-chair on the County Transit Authority Board; she also served for two years as chair of the BAAQMD Mobile Source Committee. 350 SF has worked with her on most of these efforts:
- The holding of several hearings on city fleet electrification; she is a strong supporter of public transit;
- The authoring and passing of important climate-related legislation during her first term on the Board, including:Â
- the Ban on Gas-Powered Landscaping Equipment, with public education and buy-back of old equipment components, and
- a bill to streamline limited infill housing in an area of SF that can support increased density and affordable housing for families;Â
- Helping to pass BAAQMD’s heat pump and water heater regulations;Â
- Supporting the SF Environment Department (SFE)’s work to implement the Climate Action Plan, pushing for stronger coordination and leadership of the City’s climate solutions; andÂ
- Generating effective climate action by knowing how to solve problems, how government processes can work effectively, and how to get along well with people.
Supervisor Melgar understands both the bigger climate emergency and the local measures needed for climate solutions. We endorse Myrna Melgar for a second term as District 7 Supervisor.
