350 Bay Area Action’s local team, 350 San Francisco Action, is happy to endorse Jackie Fielder, long-time climate champion, for SF Board of Supervisors (District 9).
Jackie has a view for an environmentally sound future based on her understanding of the biggest source of resistance to climate change actions: fossil fuel money. Individual actions are useful, but change must happen in the larger systems as well.
Jackie’s activism was reinforced by the brave opposition of the indigenous people at Standing Rock who opposed the Dakota pipeline. Since that time, she has fought big bank funding of pipelines, deforestation, and social injustice in her three years working with Stop The Money Pipeline. Earlier, in 2017, she founded the Public Bank Coalition. This group envisions a community bank that can fund small businesses, affordable housing and renewable energy.
Jackie worked to help pass CA AB857, a bill that legalized municipal public banks. As a recent LAFCo* commissioner, she negotiated with the SF Public Utility Commission for access to funding for environmental studies on green banking, natural gas transition, EV charging and battery storage.
As a resident of San Francisco, Jackie also recognizes the social justice issues inherent in climate pollution: crowded and unmodernized housing units, freeway pollution concentration, and toxic waste dumping in Treasure Island and the Bayshore. The residents in and adjacent to those areas suffer associated health effects, which require mitigation and assistance.
Jackie has comprehensive goals around toxins and air pollution as well as accessible transit, renewable energy, building decarbonization, and green jobs. As a descendant of both Mexican immigrants and Native Americans, Jackie feels a deep pride in her attempts to return nature’s balance in the environment.
