Kate Colin is a long-time resident and a long-time public servant of San Rafael. Kate joined the San Rafael City Council in 2013. She has served in various leadership positions, and believes strongly in listening to and bringing in different voices from the community to all aspects of local governance.
In the last 4 years as the Mayor, Kate has laid some very strong foundational strategies across four key priority areas for San Rafael: Homeless/Housing, Economic Growth, Climate Change, and Social Justice.
Kate has had the opportunity to implement several climate-friendly initiatives and has ideas to implement more if re-elected. Some of these initiatives are highlighted below:
- Under Kate’s leadership, San Rafael passed an “All Electric” ordinance for new construction in 2022
- San Rafael purchases “Deep Green” energy from MCE and will continue to do so
- Kate would like to pilot a robust car-sharing program and continue to subsidize public transit to reduce the number of cars on the road
- Kate would like to work with the federal government to design grants for low income, multi-family homes to move away from natural gas
